2. Amphitrite Statue, Grand Cayman
Off the southwest point of Grand Cayman, a 272kg mermaid sculpture named Amphitrite lies 15m below the surface. Created by Simon Morris, this statue is a popular attraction at Sunset House Resort, offering a unique underwater encounter for divers and snorkelers. The shimmering bronze figure has become an iconic symbol of the island’s vibrant marine culture.
3. Guardian of the Reef, Grand Cayman
Another creation by Simon Morris, the Guardian of the Reef, is a merman statue that stands guard near the Grand Cayman scuba shop, Divetech. Sunk by Nancy Easterbrook, it’s believed that kissing the statue brings good luck. This underwater sentinel not only promotes ocean conservation but also adds a mythical dimension to the local diving scene.
4. MUSA, Mexico
The Museo Subacuatico de Arte, or MUSA, is an underwater museum off Cancun, Isla Mujeres, and Punta Nizuc in Mexico. It features over 500 life-size sculptures by Jason deCaires Taylor and other artists. These installations serve as artificial reefs, promoting coral growth and marine life while offering a surreal visual spectacle for divers.

Opened in 2006, the Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park was the world’s first underwater sculpture garden. Located off the west coast of Grenada, it initially featured 75 sculptures by Jason deCaires Taylor. The park has since expanded, with new pieces added in 2023, depicting characters from Grenada’s annual carnival, Spicemas.

Also part of the Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park, Vicissitudes is a circle of 26 life-size figures by Jason deCaires Taylor. Cast from local children, the sculptures represent unity and resilience.
